Charlotte Tenants Want Cool Space Too
Employee quality of life also includes the office environment, especially for younger workers, Trinity Partners director of office leasing Rhea Greene tells us. Gen Y workers in Charlotte want what their generational cohorts on the coasts have: cool office space. (Everyone deserves to play ping pong at work; it's an American institution.) To get their fix of cool office space, she says they're coming to the Tomkins Toolworx building in SteelYard, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, wood floors, and historic rehab vibe, where four tenants either moved into or expanded into more than 10k SF.
Rhea explains that the four recent deals at Tomkins Toolworx, where she oversees leasing, have been for standard site-selection reasons, such as the condition of the space and access to transit. But the four are a diverse lot--a marketing group, tech company, staffing firm, and consultant--and they were looking for something a little different. (With such a variety in personalities, they could start a boy band.) "The property is one of the few options in Charlotte that has an authentic 'cool factor,' " she asserts. "It's a product type that's in demand by a younger generation."
