How President-Elect Donald Trump Could Impact Commercial Real Estate

In a shocking turn of events that neither the polls nor financial markets predicted, Donald Trump will become the 45th president of the United States of America, after defeating Democrat Hillary Clinton.

His path to victory was an unprecedented one, grabbing crucial battleground states like Florida and Ohio before breaking through the “blue wall” of typically Democratic-leaning states such as Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan that were imperative for Clinton's success.

Trump's victory signifies a coming shift in global policies surrounding free trade, immigration and international finance promised on the campaign trail. The win has certainly dealt a shocking blow to global financial markets, with stock futures plunging election night.

Retailers Around The Globe Are Paying Top Dollar To Be On These Streets

Luxury retailers are still willing to pay top dollar for prime retail space in the world's most expensive markets. Global prime rents were up by 3.7% in Q2, according to a recent CBRE report.

New York remains the most expensive retail market in the world, with rents on Fifth Avenue between 56th and 58th streets as high as $4k/SF. Markets in Hong Kong, London and Paris follow New York with the most expensive retail rents in the world. Regionally, prime rents have grown by the most in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, up by 6.9% year-over-year compared to the Americas 3.9% increase.

Chain Restaurants Suffer From Declining Traffic, Sales In Q3

The restaurant industry has been taking some hits as of late, particularly chain restaurants, which posted their fourth consecutive month of same-store sales declines. Industry experts point to growing competition from independent restaurants and the prepared food business for the drop in traffic.

“There are other parts of the industry growing faster than chains,” TDn2k (Transforming Data Into Knowledge) director of insights Victor Fernandez tells Bisnow.
