In Florida, Medical Marijuana Companies
Battle For Dominance

Liberty Health Sciences is on track to open five new medical marijuana dispensaries — or, as the company calls them, “cannabis education centers” — in Florida by the end of the year, adding to the seven it has already established here.

This series profiles men and women in commercial real estate who have profoundly transformed our neighborhoods and reshaped our cities, businesses and lifestyles.

Greg Freedman was born to be a driver. The vehicle doesn't matter so much — he is happy behind the wheel of a car, a motorcycle or an ATV on scenic routes and fast tracks alike. When he thinks no one is watching, he is even known to hop on forklifts at construction sites.

Carlyle Raises $540M For European Fund After Long, Hard Road To Recovery

Private equity giant Carlyle has raised €478M ($541M) for a new European real estate fund, its first on the continent since before the financial crisis.

Results for the Washington, D.C.-based firm founded by David Rubenstein, Bill Conway and Daniel D'Aniello show that it raised €269M for the Carlyle Europe Realty Fund during the third quarter, taking it close to its equity target of €500M.

Completing an equity raising for a European real estate fund will be a big moment for Carlyle. It is a giant in the worlds of corporate buyouts and U.S. real estate. In September it raised its largest-ever U.S. property fund, the $5.5B Carlyle Realty Partners VIII.

Office Developers Balancing Existing, Future Parking Needs

Ratios continue to decrease in urban, transit-oriented markets like San Francisco, Chicago, Boston and Washington, D.C.
